Our current titles are on www.bloomberg.com/books. We do not typically publish management, strategy, leadership, professional development, entrepreneurship, personal finance, or general consumer books.
Query first by e-mail at press@bloomberg.com with a short description, to see if your full proposal is something you should submit. If the answer is yes, we accept typed, double-spaced proposals on 8 ½" x 11" business paper (or electronically by prior arrangement). We also accept completed manuscripts with return packaging and postage. See the guidelines below for full proposals.
Elements to include:
Concise description of proposed book and, if available, sample manuscript
- Succinct description of what your book is about and why there is a market for this information. Explain the topic, format, approach, and audience of your book.
- Detailed table of contents and an expanded outline that elaborates on the book’s content. The outline should demonstrate the book’s argument and the conclusions that will be offered (as distinct from just listing topics).
- Manuscript or one or more sample chapters
Author information
- One to three paragraphs telling us who you are and why you are uniquely qualified to write this book
- A copy of your vita or résumé. List any other books you have written, and how they sold.
Analysis of relevant competition
- List all other books that are similar to or competitive with your proposed book and describe how yours is different.
- Include bookstore and online research.
- When citing comparable or competitive books, include title, author, price, format (cloth or paperbound), page length, publisher, and dates of publication (noting multiple editions, if any).
Also include in your package:
- Articles published by you or other press clippings that are related to your topic
- The length of time it will take you to complete your manuscript
- The approximate word count and how many final book pages you envision
- Any other information about you or your book that will help us make a decision
Features we look for in a book proposal:
- A one-sentence description: the “handle” for the book
- Rationale for publishing the book: the unmet needs it serves
- Profile of the target readership. Use job titles and kinds of firms to focus this.
- Objective analysis of competitive books and comparable books
- Where the target reader is currently getting information on your subject
- Author qualifications, speaking schedule, publicity angles, media contacts
- Promotional/marketing/selling angles, such as a tie-in with author’s column, newsletter, show, website. List organizations likely to buy multiple copies.
Mail (with a postage-paid, self-addressed envelope or box if you want your materials returned) to: Acquisitions Editor, Bloomberg Press, 731 Lexington Ave., New York, NY 10022.
